The Beechcraft Sport 150, Sundowner 180, and Sierra 200 are a family of single-engine, high-wing general aviation aircraft produced by Beech Aircraft Corporation from 1975 to 1982. These aircraft were designed to be affordable and versatile, suitable for personal transportation, flight training, and even aerial photography. The Sport 150, the initial model, featured a Lycoming IO-320 engine producing 150 horsepower. The Sundowner 180 followed, boasting a slightly larger cabin and a more powerful Lycoming IO-360 engine generating 180 horsepower. The Sierra 200, the final iteration, incorporated further refinements, including an increased fuel capacity and a higher gross weight. The Sport 150 was a popular choice for flight schools due to its simplicity and forgiving flight characteristics, earning a reputation for reliability and ease of maintenance. The Beechcraft Sport family of aircraft were primarily known for their robust construction and relatively low operating costs. The high-wing design provided excellent visibility and a stable platform for flight training, while the spacious cabin comfortably accommodated four adults. The Sundowner 180 and Sierra 200 models offered additional features like optional cargo doors and baggage compartments, making them suitable for light utility and aerial work. Despite their popularity, production of the Sport 150 line ceased in 1982, contributing to their status as sought-after classics within the general aviation community. Today, these aircraft remain in service worldwide, admired for their versatility, ease of operation, and enduring charm.
